Traffic flow theory (basic, general). Methods for traffic areas dimensioning: for the freeway facilities dimensioning - On and off ramps influence area - Weaving areas - Basic freeway segments for signalized intersections dimensioning - Characteristics of interrupted traffic flow - Types of signal controls - Dimensioning of signalised intersections by HCM 2010 - Dimensioning of signalised intersections by HBS 2010 - Traffic management and control in urban area - Signal coordination on the closed urban road network - Signal coordination on the opened urban road network Advanced methods for dimensioning - Usage the computer based tools for engineering problems on the field of traffic technique - Computer tools for dimensioning - Computer tools for modelling and simulation Impact and meaning of walking and cycling in the traffic areas

Objectives and competences
To inform students with advanced methods for dimensioning of traffic areas outside and inside urban areas and with up-to-date, computer based methods for dimensioning the traffic areas.

Knowledge and understanding of procedures for dimensioning of traffic areas, Usage the computer based tools in the engineering problems  
Intended learning outcomes - transferable/key skills and other attributes
usage the computer in engineering, understanding the methodologies of dimensioning of traffic areas as a key element in the process of designing of road traffic infrastructure 
Learning and teaching methods
Lectures and exercises are foreseen, where theoretically gained knowledge strengthens on concrete instances. Students in frame of exercises finish also seminar paper, that he comprises fieldwork and analysis of concrete realistic example.
