Content (Syllabus outline)
The subject evaluates development of the discipline of settlement planning from prehistoric times till today. In this sense the subject defines the key factors of urban development with emphasis on development of the European city. The subject evaluates the key development moments of cities. Simultaneously the subject analyses the state of development of modern cities and provides guidelines or directives for further development. In this context the content of the History of cities are the following chapters: development of settlements from antiquity till today factors of urban development of European cities spontaneous and planned settlement growth key instruments for planning urban structures advantages and disadvantages of the city possibilities for planning the modern city starting points for planning the modern city

The course objective is to educate about characteristics of urban development

Learning and teaching methods
The programme will be undertaken in cooperation with visiting professors and lecturers and a seminary work, whose themes will be analysis of characteristics of settlement development and forecasting future development processes
